Across Asia
700 hours on trains
In late 2017 we set out from France and traveled almost exclusively by train to Vietnam, taking the mythic trans-Siberien railroad to Vladivostok. In China we decided to walk along the Great Wall, sleeping in towers until eleven soldiers showed up one night and escorted us off the mountain. In Nepal I trekked the Annapurna circuit and base camp and witnessed the super blood moon of 2018 from Milarepa’s Cave. I spent three weeks traveling around India with only $150 after a problem with my bank and celebrated the biggest national festival, Holi, with new friends in Delhi. I rode the trains to the southernmost tip, and visited the temples at Hampi, a Unesco World Heritage site. In Kyrgyzstan and I hiked and camped in several national parks, and in Kazakhstan I explored the mountains and canyons before taking a train to the Caspian Sea. There, I waited 9 days until there was a boat crossing to Azerbaijan. I took trains back to Switzerland, visiting Georgia, Turkey, and the Balkan countries briefly on my return.
